William F. Reben gives December 7; Marcelline Schott give it as December 5. It was a double wedding with Ida Plowman and Joe Allison. William Allison Jr. died on Feb 8, 1939 at Lyndon, Osage County, Kansas, at age 84; Stroke. William was buried at Lyndon Cemetery, Lyndon, Osage County, Kansas.
     

On 1-31-1872, William was attacked and beaten severely by a John Allison (perhaps a brother or cousin?). John was arrested and charged with "striking, beating and wounding William with the intent to kill with a deadly weapon". the trial date was in June and John was found guilty. He plead guilty and the charges were dismissed as long as he paid $10 court costs. It is unknown why different documents say different things.

"The community was saddened last Thursday morning to learn that William Allison had passed away Wednesday evening. Mr. Allison had suffered a stroke of paralysis about a week before, from which he never regained consciousness.
William Allison, son of Mary and William Allison, was born near Dresden, Canada in March 1854, and departed this life Feb. 8, 1939, at the advanced age of 85 years, at his home in Lyndon, Kasnsas.
He came with his father and other members of the family to Kansas in 1868, the family settling in Osage county, near Lyndon, where his father run the mill on Salt Creek.
He was united in marriage to Miss Henrietta Elizabeth Plowman on Dec. 5, 1876, and to this union five children were born, four daughters, May, Della Grace and Edna, and one son John Orange. Three daughters preceded him in death.
Mr. Allison lived a long and useful life and spent his time on the farm until a few years ago, when advanced age and failing health caused him to move to town, where he and his good wife might spend the remaining days of their life in less active work. Aside from farming, he was also a carpenter and did considerable carpenter work along with his farm work and since moving to Lyndon, worked at his trade some of the time.
Mr. and Mrs. Allison had the joy of a long and happy married life and the unusual privilege of living together for 62 years, before either of them were called to give up their companion.
While not a member of any church, Mr. Allison was always interested in the church and its activities and had done a lot of carpenter work and repair work on the local Baptist church. He was a man of sterling qualities, always known to be upright and honest in his dealings with his fellow men. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and a friend to all with whom he came in contact, and shall we say with the poet, "He was content ot live by the side of the road and be a friend to man."
He is survived by his wife and daughter Grace of the home address, and his son John O. of St. Charles, MO, a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, beside many other relatives and a host of friends who will mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Baptist church with Rev. Erickson officiating, and the interment was made in the Lyndon cemetery."


William Allison, Jr.

William Allison was born in Canada 1854. His mother died when he was 6 years old, leaving four children, William being the youngest of the three boys John Jack Allison of Melvern is the oldest brother and Joseph Allison of Lyndon same next. Elizabeth a girl of fourteen when the family came to Lyndon married at the age of 17 Wm. H. Cables down on the Maris Des Cygne, but died a year after her marriage. So that disposes of the children which Wm. Allison Sr. had by his first wife. Eight years before Mr. Allison removed from Canada to Kansas he had married again and Wm. had two half sisters, Mary Ann five years old, Eliza Jane three years old at the time of immigration which was in 1869. His half sister Mary Ann married H. C. Hutton, has three children and lives at Iola. His sister Eliza Jane married Iva Lowbaugh and lives at Neosho Falls Kansas

In his language the narrative says: We came to Baldwin first where we lived about two months in the same house with O. S. Stan who lives two miles south of town. We bought out Al Roth's interest in the claim to the N. E. 1/4 of section 18:17:16 the half of which claim I still live on.

The first summer or two in Kansas I worked mostly in Douglas Co. at stone mason work. In 1871 four months for Kennedy and on the Holden Missouri R. R.

I was 17 years old when I came down to stay in Osage Co. In 1872 I farmed Fathers place while he worked as a miller in the Pomona Mill. In the fall and early winter I took a trip out on the plains as far as Dodge City where I acted as clerk in a store

Summer of 1873 I again run Father's farm while he was off at Pomona in the mill. About 1874 Father and I both went to work in the Lyndon grist mill for the Hendersons under an engagement for a year spending the winter at home.

In the spring of 76 I hired out to O. C. Williams four months at $20 per month and after that term I went to work in the coal fields of Carbondale.

That fall of 76 I built my shanty 14 X 18 one and one half stories high on the east eighty of the same claim my father lived on and which claim I had paid for out of my own wages.

Dec. 6, 1876 I married Henrietta E. Plowman of Melvern brother Joseph marrying her sister at the same time. I have lived here on my farm ever since.

My step mother, father's second wife, died Oct. 1874 and is buried in a little burial plot on the farm. Two girls which are mentioned before and Frank H. Allison.

Father married for his third wife L. C. Terry of Osage Co. She had a daughter, Maud C. Terry who is married and lives in Idaha.

My second stepmother raised five children for Father, Chester, Thomas, Charles, Ellsworth, and Hannah Allison.

In 1875 Father hired out and worked the Williamsburg mill about a year, returning home and farming until about 1880 when he and the Pixby Bros. bought the Lyndon Mill and for the first time moved his family off the farm. Will Lamb a brother in law of Mrs. Allison lived on the place in 1885, and W. H. Lieurance in 1886. In the fall of 1886 we sold the 80 to J. F. Peairs taking his house in Lyndon as part payment. My Father lived in Williamsburg three years until about the time of the sale of his farm here when he traded out his mill for a farm down at Lane, Franklin Co. where he moved and lived until his death, Oct, 1887 age about 80 years. The widow still lives in that section.

"Anna Grace Allison was born May 31, 1882, near Lyndon, KS, one of five children born to Mr. and Mrs. William Allison. She departed this life December 17, 1947, at her home in Lyndon, at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 17 days. Her three sisters and her father preceded her in death. She is survived by her aged mother, her brother, John Allison, several nephews and nieces, many other relatives and a host of friends.
Early in life she united with the Lyndon Baptist Church and was a faithful and willing worker in the Lord's work all of her life. She operated a beauty shop in Lyndon for a number of years until failing health compelled her to give up her work. She was more than the operator of a beauty shop. She helped to make life more beautiful for those her life touched. She bore the suffering of her prolonged illness bravely and without complaint, thinking of others rather than herself; a friend of everyone, beloved and respected by all who knew her."

Altoona Mirror May 28, 1968: D. LUKE BOWSER, of New Enterprise RD, died at 10:30 p.m. yesterday in Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. He was born in Bedford County Feb. 24, 1895, a son of Absalom and Minnie May (Sell) Bowser, and was twice married, to Mary Pearle Sell, who died in Nov. 1954, and to Ida McKee. Surviving are his wife, eight children, Mrs. Josephine Brumbaugh and Donald of New Enterprise, RD, Mrs. Vergie Brumbaugh of Martinsburg, Mrs. Mary Monagahan of South Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Gertrude Miller of Dallas Center, Iowa, Leroy of Bedford, the Rev. D. Luke Jr. of Siplesville and the Rev. Harold of Union Bridge, Md; four stepchildren, Clyde McKee of Lilly RD, Paul McKee of Moab, Utah, Donald McKee of Duncansville RD 1 and Mrs. Darlene Pope of Stratford, Conn; 15 grandchildren, 21 step-grandchildren and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Ruth Walter and Paul Bowser of New Enterprise RD and Mrs. Bertha Diehl of Altoona. Mr. Bowser was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon in the church. He was a retired farmer. Friends will be received in the Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring, from 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow and from 1 to 10 p.m. Thursday.
