CONOVER-Robert F. A distinguished New York artist and teacher died on October 5, 1998 of natural causes. Mr. Conover was born in Trenton, New Jersey in 1920. His career in the arts began in the 1940's, following his service in World War II and continued throughout his life. His work is represented in many collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art & the Metropolitan Museum. He taught painting, drawing and printmaking at the New School for Social Research since 1958, and received many honors throughout his career. He is survived by his daughter, Chris Conover of New York City, his sister Mrs. Nancy Anderson of Holland, PA, his brother David Conover of Oshkosh, WI., and Jaqueline Heaslip, his longtime companion. John Conover Nichols (August 31, 1896 – November 7, 1945) was a U.S. Representative from Oklahoma.

Biography
Born in Joplin, Missouri, Nichols attended the public schools in Joplin, Missouri, and Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the teachers college at Emporia, Kansas. He studied law in the office of his brother in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He was admitted to the bar association in 1926 and commenced practice in Eufaula, Oklahoma. During World War I he served in the 19th Infantry, United States Army from 1917 to 1919.

Nichols was elected as a Democrat to the 74th Congress and to the four succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1935, until his resignation on July 3, 1943, to become vice president of Transcontinental & Western Airlines, in which capacity he served until his death in an airplane crash at Asmara, Eritrea, November 7, 1945. He was interred in the United States military cemetery in Asmara, Eritrea. He was reinterred in Greenwood Cemetery, Eufaula, Oklahoma.
