Sallie Mayo Morgan Kinsey was born April 15, 1888, Tahlequah, Indian Territory to Gideon Hazen Morgan and Mary Llewellyn Payne. Sallie was their sixth child and fifth daughter. Gideon was of Cherokee descent and served on the Cherokee Tribal Council. He was also was one of the three builders of the new Female Seminary located in Tahlequah. Today, the school is known as Northeastern State University. Sallie Mayo Morgan was a student at the Seminary and a member of the graduating Class of 1905.

In 1906, Sallie enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago and studied there for one year. Her water color entitled China Doll and Parasol hung in the entry during the school year of 1906. In 1907 Sallie was required to return home when her sister Lelia Morgan Eubanks with whom Sallie resided Divorced Mr. Eubanks.

With permission of her father, Sallie moved to Dewey, Oklahoma and began teaching school. In 1908, she met a young accountant, Ernest Vail Kinsey. They soon became engaged and married June 14, 1911. In 1917, Vail and Sallie took up residence on her Cherokee Allotment in Mayes County where they farmed. The allotment was located on Grand River three miles north of Salina. Today the foundation of their home is still visible on the east bank of Lake Hudson. The foundation was left there by the Corpse of Engineers as a land mark.

Sallie's art career was forgotten during the years that followed. Vail and Sallie reared a son, Vail, Jr. born in 1918 and a daughter Gunter Payne born in 1920. During the depression the family found sustenance through Vail's talents as an accountant residing in Pawnee County where Vail worked for the John B. Grieves Oil Company. Vail passed away in 1943 and Sallie found comfort and security in the extended family home on her father's allotment across Grand River from her allotment. She resided there at Morgan's Inn with three of her four living sisters. There Sallie stayed till the end of World War Two.

In 1948, Sallie secured a position as housemother for Wilson Hall, Northeastern State College, Tahlequah. While there Sallie completed degrees in art and elementary education. Her interest in her art classes enabled her talent to flourish and during the next six years, she produced many additional paintings and carved the linoleum block used to produce the linen print photographed here.
Sallie Mayo Morgan Kinsey died March 15, 1977. She was still painting. She left one unfinished work. Sallie was honored by the Cherokee Nation in April 1979 with a showing of much of her works of art at the Cherokee Heritage Center at Tsa La Gi. These many years later her fine productions are still treasured by her family and acquaintances.

     Gideon married Mary Llewellyn Payne.

Susan Beall Tucker died on May 25, 2004 at Sedona, Yavapai County, Arizona, at age 82. Susan was buried in Oct, 2004 at Euchee Valley Memorial Park, Cushing, Payne County, Oklahoma; cremated remains interred.

Susan Tucker Kinsey, 82, of Sedona passed peacefully on the 25th of May holding her daughter's hand. Susan was survived by her brother, Brison Tucker, her two daughters and their families. A private service will be held at the family cemetery in Oklahoma. Being a fervent supporter of the Humane Society, Susan wished donations to be made in her name in lieu of flowers.
